Photonics Communications Research Laboratory
National Technical University of Athens
About Us
The Photonics Communications Research Laboratory (PCRL) was founded in September 1995 as a research laboratory of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering / National Technical University of Athens, one of the largest and most active electrical engineering departments in Europe. PCRL is also a member of the Institute Computer Communications Systems (ICCS/NTUA).
PCRL Today
Track Record
PCRL was established in 1995. The research group is led by Professor Hercules Avramopoulos and consists of senior researchers and PhD students. PCRL members are young motivated researchers with unique skils in the design and development of photonic subsystems through functional integration of photonic components. The group members have engineering capabilities in implementing complex and highly functional photonic subsystems and possess extensive know-how in testing and measurement techniques for evaluating the photonic subsystems with increased accuracy.
PCRL has a proven track record with successful participation and leadership in a number of European and National funded research projects through corresponding frameprogrammes such as ACTS, FP6, FP7. The group also has a large number of contributions (regular and invited) in IEEE, OSA and SPIE scientific journals and conferences organized by IEEE/LEOS and OSA. The group also maintains strong links with the photonics industry and has cooperated with major national and international telecommunication companies of the field under research-oriented projects, as well as direct contract agreements.
